How to use the Cognitive Craftsman™ Active Listening Studio:

The Cognitive Craftsman™ Active Listening Studio is
Part of The Craftsman Series™ from Emotional Craftsman, LLC

To use the Cognitive Craftsman™ Active Listening Studio, follow these steps:

  1. Load a local audio file (drag & drop or Choose File). Recommended: WAV or MP3. You will need to wait until the software has completed decoding the file before proceeding.
  2. Press Play to start audio playback.
  3. Select a Method:
    • The Emotional Craftsman™ Method uses the VINYL™ process tool to add warmth, texture, wow, flutter, harmonic color, and a final tape-print feel to the music for emotional reflection.
    • The Logical Craftsman™ Method uses the ALBUM™ process tool to reduce vocal focus to highlight rhythm in the music for logical reflection.
    • The Social Craftsman™ Method uses the RECORD™ process tool to bring vocals forward and relax background rhythm in the music for social (narrative) reflection.
    • The Original / Unprocessed setting plays the original music without any filtering (no simulated Protective Filters).
  4. Use the Intensity slider to control the strength of the audio processing within the selected Method.
  5. Remember the metaphor: these filters are listening aids, not clinical tools. The underlying song stays the same; the listening frame changes what becomes easier to notice.
  6. Cognitive Craftsman™ Subtlety Drive adds a small amount of dynamic settling so the processed signal can feel more cohesive without becoming obviously compressed.
  7. You can view the Spectrogram to see EQ/notch effects on the selected monitor point. Compression, saturation, Subtlety Drive, and Tape Print may change feel and texture without appearing as simple filter curves.
  8. For precision: open Advanced Settings to fine‑tune each stage (EQ/notch, dynamics, saturation, vinyl, final tape print, limiter/ceiling) while keeping the Method behavior intact.
Journal Entry PDF Generator

The Active Listening Studio lets you listen to music while typing reflections into the process prompts below. The Studio also supports the Cognitive Side Door™ Technique by giving you an indirect, music-centered way to approach difficult material through rhythm, lyrics, mood, memory, sound, and pattern before translating what you notice into reflection.

The prompts also support the Cross-Domain Triangulation™ Technique by helping you compare emotional, logical, and social observations within the same listening session.

At the end of your listening and reflection session, you can generate a PDF containing your Logical Emotion Deconstruction (LED)™ Process, Searching for Emotions and Patterns (SEP)™ Process, Recognizing Original Calmness and Kindness (ROCK)™ Process, and Responsible Craftsman™ Method / “Trinary Thinking” journal entries.

Core Cognitive Equations
Emotional Equation
Resonant Emotion =

Pattern Amplification Equation
Pattern Amplification =
Response Consequence × Interpretation Reinforcement
Pattern Stabilization Equation
Pattern Stabilization =
Corrective Feedback × Stabilizing Practice
Cognitive Black Hole Feedback Equation
Next Pattern State =
Current Pattern State + Amplifying Feedback - Stabilizing Feedback
Amplifying Feedback Equation
Amplifying Feedback =

Stabilizing Feedback Equation
Stabilizing Feedback =
Corrective Feedback × Stabilizing Practice
Cognitive Black Hole Strength Equation
Next Cognitive Black Hole Strength =
Current Cognitive Black Hole Strength + Amplifying Feedback - Stabilizing Feedback
Relational Gravity
Relational Gravity Equation
Relational Gravity =
Pattern Mass × Emotional Proximity
The equations are not formulas to solve perfectly. They are a way to separate the parts of a moment while the music gives you a steady listening frame.
Use this prompt to hold a third category beside right/wrong or yes/no: context-dependent, maybe, both partly true, not yet, or I need more context.
When you select the Generate PDF button, you will need to save the PDF locally to your computer.
Local Processing
All audio is processed locally within your web browser. Additionally, all process prompts and PDFs are generated locally. Nothing from this session will be uploaded anywhere and this software remains fully functional even when offline and not conencted to the Internet.

Files
Supported audio files: WAV and MP3 (and other formats your browser can decode). If a file won’t load, convert it to WAV.
Streaming
Streaming / DRM note: Spotify/Amazon Music/YouTube typically cannot be routed into Web Audio DSP due to DRM. Use local audio files.
Privacy
Privacy / offline: All audio processing happens locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
Preferences
Language Selection: Standard = plain language. Technical = engineering terms. Sound is identical.
Tip
Tip: Use the spectrogram to see the effect of EQ/notch filtering and compare with Level Match enabled.
Basic System Requirements: A modern desktop browser that supports the Web Audio API (Chrome / Edge / Firefox recommended), speakers or headphones, a multi-core CPU (such as the Intel i5 processor, or higher), and 8GB of RAM. For best results use wired headphones/speakers and leave headroom to avoid clipping.
