3D Printed Analog Audio and Turntable Accessories

This page collects a set of 3D-printable solutions for adjusting phono cartridge height and vertical tracking angle (VTA). Proper cartridge alignment often requires small, but precise, spacing adjustments, and suitable spacers are not always available in the required dimensions or at reasonable cost.

These projects provide practical, repeatable alternatives in the form of accurately dimensioned shims and spacers that can be printed or reproduced as needed. Each design is intended to solve a specific mounting or alignment scenario while maintaining compatibility with standard headshell configurations.

The goal is to provide simple, reliable tools for achieving correct geometry without relying on improvised materials or limited commercial options.

3D Printed Phono Cartridge Headshell Spacers/Shims

These cartridge shims are designed to be installed between the cartridge body and the headshell to provide precise height adjustment. They are available in multiple thicknesses, allowing incremental changes to vertical tracking angle without altering other setup parameters.

The design emphasizes consistent dimensions, clean fitment, and compatibility with standard two-screw cartridge mounting systems on 1/2" headshells. This allows users to fine-tune alignment in a controlled and repeatable way, particularly in setups where tonearm height adjustment is limited or unavailable.

Because the shims can be printed as needed, they provide a flexible alternative to fixed commercial spacers, making it easier to experiment with different configurations and achieve optimal tracking geometry.

3D Printed 3" RSD-3 Minature Record Spindle Adapter

This design allows height adjustments to be made without introducing additional layers at the cartridge mounting surface, which can be useful in setups with limited screw length, clearance constraints, or specific mechanical considerations. As with the cartridge shims, the spacers are dimensionally consistent and intended for repeatable use, providing a practical solution for achieving proper alignment across a wider range of turntable and tonearm configurations.

Please note that: (1) your tonearm must have enough of an arc/swing to be able to play the full record, as it t's well within the standard label area; and (2) this won't work with an automatic or semi-automatic turntable. I have tested this on my Audio Technica LP-120 and it works just fine, but my U-Turn Orbit doesn't have enough arc/swing to play the minature records.

These headshell spacers are designed to adjust cartridge height at the headshell interface, providing an alternative approach where direct cartridge shimming is not preferred or where additional clearance is required.
